Tin & Glass Designs
Tyler has always been a restoration artist, taking something old and finding a way to repurpose it and give it a second life as art. His passion for creating art has evolved over the years incorporating different mediums.
The Inspiration
My grandfather had a general store in Broomhill, Manitoba, which consisted of an implement dealership, post office, grocery, hardware and dry goods store. The upper level was divided into two parts, with four apartments on one side and a dance hall on the other. After my grandfather passed away, we visited the store, which was now in disarray after being empty for over 30 years. The ceiling and walls were adorned with decorative tin tiles. I took a sheet home as a remembrance of my grandfather and after six months of trial and error, I designed the product you see today.
After seeing what I had turned these old tin tiles into, friends and family also wanted a piece to remember a lost time, and that is when my business began. I have always been a history buff and wanted people to know where these pieces came from during their 100 to 170 year life, so I incorporated their story to go on the backside of each piece. The designs of the tiles are timeless and quite subtle.
